Procedure for Providing Free/Reduced Meals

There are several ways students may qualify for free/reduced meals based on the current USDA income eligibility guidelines:

● Directly Certified: Students who qualify for free/reduced meals by direct certification will be notified by mail as early as July. No application is necessary. Please call the Food Service Director, Lee Ann Breton, at 817-866-4500 if the letter does not include all of your school age children.

● Household Income: Household income that is at or below the income eligibility level qualifies students for free/reduced meals. Applications will be available at registration in all campus offices and online. A completed application is necessary every year. Multi students go on one application--please do not fill out a separate application for each sibling--list them on the one application.

● Foster, Homeless, Migrant: These students automatically qualify for free lunches -- please indicate status on the application.

● Household receiving SNAP, TANF: These students automatically qualify for free/reduced lunches -- please indicate SNAP or TANF number on the application.

Applications can be submitted at any time during the year. If a household member becomes unemployed or if the household size increases, the household should contact the food service director. Such changes may make the children of the household eligible for benefits if the household’s income falls at or below the current income eligibility guidelines.

Applications must be submitted every year to renew free/reduced eligibility. Please fill out only one application for a household and list all students on the form. The following information will be requested: 1. names of all household members, 2. amount/frequency/and source of current income for each member, 3. last 4 digits of the Social Security number of the adult household member (or check box for “I do not have a social security number”), 4. signature of an adult household member attesting that the information is correct
